KONTAN.CO.ID - JAKARTA. PT BFI Finance Indonesia Tbk (BFIN) or BFI Finance assessed that the recent weakening of the rupiah did not have a significant impact on the increase in demand for Chinese brand heavy equipment in the domestic market.
Based on Kontan's monitoring, the rupiah closed stronger at IDR 16,292 per US dollar on Wednesday (5/2).
For information, Chinese brand heavy equipment is increasingly popular in Indonesia because its prices are more competitive compared to brands from the US, Europe, and Japan.
Several Chinese heavy equipment brands circulating in the domestic market include Sany, LiuGong, Sinotruk, and XCMG.
Chinese Heavy Equipment Increasingly Accepted by the Market
Corporate Business Head of PT BFI Finance Indonesia Tbk, Stanly Darisang, stated that the weakening of the rupiah was not the main factor in increasing demand for Chinese brand heavy equipment.
According to him, brands from China have started to develop rapidly since the pandemic.
"The increase in interest in Chinese brand heavy equipment is more due to stock readiness, massive production, and increasingly good market acceptance," Stanly told Kontan, Wednesday (5/2).
Furthermore, Stanly said that BFI Finance recorded growth in financing for Chinese brand heavy equipment.
However, Japanese brand heavy equipment also continued to experience growth, especially in the tonnage segment class that is much needed by the market.
Increase in Heavy Equipment Financing in 2024
Until December 2024, BFI Finance recorded an increase in managed receivables specifically for heavy equipment financing of 12% on a year-on-year (YoY) net basis.
According to Stanly, this spike was driven by increased activity in the mining sector which requires more heavy equipment.
To maintain the growth in heavy equipment financing distribution in 2025, BFI Finance has prepared several main strategies, including: Focus on the right valuation and target market.
Diversification of financing portfolio so as not to rely on one sector only, offering various attractive promos for consumers.
"We will also collaborate with business partners, as well as the correct credit process," he said.
